I am amazed at how the past few days have unfolded. I believe I was expecting this road to radical intuition to be paved with gold, to find no briars or thorns, and that it would be such a magical journey that everyone would want to do this.
What I’m finding is that no matter how radically intuitive I am, I am 100% human and have normal human things happen.
The U-Turn
My intuition led me to go to a particular meditation group, and when I was driving there, I accidentally drove right past the building. I immediately pulled into a lane where I could do a U-turn (or so I thought), only to discover, too late, that it was a no u-turn zone.
“No worries!” I thought, “I’ll just turn at the next chance. This is why I left my house a few minutes early, after all.”
I turn left figuring that I will make a u-turn or turn into a shopping area at the first opportunity.
Unfortunately, it was not to be so. The road I turned on had dead stop traffic for 3 miles, which apparently was the next place I could make any type of turn, right left, or otherwise.
At first, I simply assumed I was going to be late, and I was anxious, because I had even called the lady who was running the meditation to say I was going to be there, and now I was less than a mile away, but couldn’t get into the building.
Hell, I had been 20 yards away from the building, and couldn’t get in. How was I going to explain myself? How would it look? Was I going to look like a flake? Like I didn’t value her time, or that I wasn’t a person of my word?
The cars in front of my inched forward, and the clock slowly ticked. Five minutes late, ten minutes late. What was I going to do?
Eventually, I realized that the traffic wasn’t going to go any faster by stressing about it, and that since the service had already started, I couldn’t call the director back to let her know I wasn’t coming. I might as well listen to Philosopher’s Notes, my favorite way to consume fantastic ideas, and see if there was something to discover.
I turned on my iPod, and the very first idea Brian (the creator of Philosopher’s Notes) talked about was response-ability. He was talking about how when things happen, what separates successful people from unsuccessful people was taking ownership for our responses. The note was on Dr. Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and talk about a wake up call! It helped me pull out of my anxiety and frustration, and I began to cultivate a curiosity about what I was experiencing.
It took 40 minutes to drive the 3 miles. Was I supposed to take this 40 minute detour, and if so, why the hell was I supposed to be on this road? Was there a lesson? Had my intuition led me to this road, or was it a fluke? Was I supposed to be at the meditation, like I thought?
I wish I could say that becoming conscious of responses and being curious automatically got me out of my funk and that I was happy bappy and stress free for the rest of the drive, but that’s simply not the truth. Even after I got out of the 40 minute U-turn, I was still upset, although I was in a much better frame of mind.
I wanted for all of this to have a meaning, and even though I was curious, I couldn’t see the “why.” Wasn’t my intuition supposed to guide me to better experiences? To the ones that put my best and highest good first? Didn’t following my intuition make me more immune to these types of experiences?
Getting Guidance
The following day, I decided to ask my spirit guides for their input in a channeling session. (Normally, I wouldn’t share this. I do quite a bit of channeling, and I find it deeply personal and spiritual. This session, however, is very important for my 30 day Radical Intuition Trial, so I feel compelled to share it.) Here is what they said:
You must clarify your vision. The guidance you receive is like a GPS or a map. We are trying to show you where to go, but we cannot do this effectively if you do not give us full instructions. We can only guide you when there is a destination. If there is no destination, or multiple destinations that are not prioritized, then our job is very difficult, we must give you multiple options at the same time, so that you can decide which one you want more. Then, we will adjust our directions after we watch what you do. If you follow a path eagerly and with enthusiasm and passion, we know that this is a path you would like more of. If you are slow to act, then we know that you would like less of this. If it doesn’t even gain a thought from you, we take it off of the map, and we find something else to lead you toward.
In order to take full advantage of your intuition, the best thing to do is to get clear on what you want. If you are unsure of what you want, get clear on that. Get clear that you don’t know and that you would like to know what you want. Then prioritize. What do you want most? What feels most important to you? We are not here to tell you what to do, or to say “Hey! You! You must be a healer, and next you must do these three things in order to be a healer.” No, it is you who must tell us who you want to be, what you want to have and what you most want to do while you are here on Earth. Your job is asking for what you want. Our job is to give you the map. The map may have things for you to do. It is not actionless, unless you design it to be so. Actions are the feedback.
If you say you want bread, and we say, “Go to the store, there will be bread there” then you do not go to the store, we do not understand. Our job is to guide you, but we cannot take action for you. You are in charge of the action. You are in the physical world, and therefore, must take physical action. That is the game that you are playing. The physical action is part of your growth experience, and you will miss much beauty if you take that out of your experiences.
Let’s say you go to the store and you get bread, then you try the bread only to discover that you do not like bread. That is good. It is feedback. Now you say, “I do not like bread, I no longer want bread.” We will no longer bring you to bread, but we cannot bring you to something else until you decide your next destination. There is no need to constantly think about how much you disliked the bread that you tried. It is an experience you asked for, and we delivered it. If you continually put your attention on bread, then the only information we have to do our job is “bread.” So what are we to do? You seem to be asking for something you do not want? Should we bring you nothing, or should we bring you bread? We generally continue to bring you bread. Your attention isn’t on nothing, it’s on bread, and while we’d like to bring you things you enjoy more, you are not focusing on them, and many times when we try, you do not even see them. So, the only thing we know to do is to bring you bread that you do not like.
Your attention is how you ask. Put your attention on what you want, then let us guide you. Do not worry if you believe it to be impossible. If you want it, put your attention on it. Then let us guide you. We will guide you to the resources to dissemble the beliefs that do not serve you. We will lead you to the people who have traveled the road you want to go. We will lead you to the resources, big or small, for you to reach your desired destination. All you need to do is say, “yes” to each of these steps and guidances. That is your only job. Ask, take the inspired action, refine your asking if you are desiring more refinement, and receive.
We will be there every step of the way.
My guides then showed me how I had been asking for more difficulty with my attention. I had spent quite a bit of time pondering the growth that happens when we encounter something frustrating and uncomfortable. I even posted something on facebook about it earlier that day: “I am thankful for the challenges, the contrast and the “bad” things that have happened in my life, because they have opened the door to understanding and compassion I couldn’t have accessed otherwise.”
The Lesson
I had been asking, with my attention, for difficult and frustrating experiences. What I’m learning is that the Law of Attraction is much more powerful when we tune into our intuitions. Things happen faster. I’m also learning how important it is to focus on what I want with both my attention and energy.
Since the channeling session, I’ve been refining what I want. I’ve been spending quite a bit of time researching things I enjoy, meditating on what makes me feel most alive, and feeling my way through the desires that come up spontaneously.
What is it that you want and how do you focus your awareness?
Did you get something from this article? Donations are always appreciated. <3
Lovely Powerful post once again Erin. The thing I really love about your blog posts. Is that you a authentic and very honest AND share personal examples of your own life that relate to the lesson. Very Powerful.
Also would you be open in sharing an example of your mediation when focusing on what makes you feel alive?
Thanks Hosay,
I think I’ll make that a blog post for next week. There’s a simple way to do it that I’ve used, and it only takes a few minutes.
Erin-Ashley
Hi Erin,
I just wanted to say thank you for putting all these informations online and helping us all have clear guidance !
Yesterday, I was thinking that I was feeling less happy these last days, and there was a time when I would feel happier even when things didn’t really go my way or were stalling.
That’s when I remember that it was the times I would send love to the world through meditation and do loving meditation by calling in angels just for the sake of sending love and healing to the world.
Then I hot the nudge to search for love meditation, that when I stumbled on your Love Mediation video, and voilà here I am reading many of your posts and receiving so much valuable information.
Thank you really. You clarified some things for me and I know my guides guided me to you. I wish I could connect and channel as you do !
Many blessings to you,
Merry
