One of the most common questions I get is about how to start out as a psychic.
So if I were going to start all over as a psychic and I were in training, here is exactly what I would do.
1. I’d make sure I had a daily or almost daily practice to connect with my own guides.
2. I would get MailChimp set up. It costs $0.
3. I would set up an opt in box via LeadPages. It costs $37 per month. It is a worthwhile beginner investment.
4. I would make MailChimp and LeadPages talk to one another. (You can find YouTube videos on this.)
5. I would ask for people who are willing to receive a free reading from me in exchange for kind, honest and compassionate feedback. I’d post in free reading groups on FB linking to the opt in I created with LeadPages.
6. When people opt in, I would email them personally to set up a time. If I were feeling fancy, I’d have a Calendly or Acuity calendar ready to go with my availability. Calendly is what I use now for $10 a month. Calendly is free if you only have one appointment type.
7. I would schedule times for practice readings, limiting it to 3-5 a week for the first two weeks and increasing from there until I hit 50 free readings. I’d build slowly, as psychic fatigue is real and too many readings will turn your brain to mush.
8. After the reading, I would send them to a little survey I made with Google Forms or Typeform. It would ask the following questions:
- Name
- Would you recommend a reading with me to friends? Why or why not?
- What was your biggest insight during your reading?
- What did you like best about getting a reading with me?
- What (if anything) did you feel I could have done better?
- Do I have permission to share your words with attribution as a testimonial?
- What hesitations, if any, did you have about getting a reading with me?
- Any other comments?
9. Once the free readings were completed (50, y’all), I’d send out an email to everyone through MailChimp opening the doors to my brand new readings with an introductory price. It should be between 50-75% of the price of what I’d want to charge normally. I’d invoice people individually with PayPal.
10. AFTER I did the special for the new biz, I’d set up a free Facebook group with daily readings and support for those in it.
11. I’d DO daily group readings with a link to book a full reading.
12. Once a week, I’d do one question readings in the group to gain visibility and serve more people. Focus on serving people and your craft and you will go far!
That’s exactly what I’d do, y’all. That’s it. Do the work. Connect with people. Serve people.
You don’t need a website to get started.
You don’t need perfect graphics to get started.
You don’t need a blog.
You don’t need a perfect marketing plan.
Serve people.
Honor your craft.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

Hi Erin-Ashley
This is a really great post, incredibly helpful and “do-able” 🙂
Thank you for the courses and information that you provide. Those that are relevant are picked up as we grow, seek and learn, and courses or modalities not yet required are put to the side, but can be picked up later down the track.
Keep up the great work!
Kind regards,
Thank you! I’m glad you’re liking the content. 🙂
Hi Erin, I loved this article!! This is what I’ve needing to get right on track; I didn’t know any of this!
Though I have some questions… Maybe the answer is obvious, but when offering the practice readings, how are they gonna be done? (I mean, by email, videocall, chat, or etc) Or which one you recommend? And do you use some platform to do this (like skype, hangouts, just via email, …)?
Also I didn’t quite understand very well what involves or the differences between the steps 10, 11 and 12… (and how will you “promote” the facebook group? Sending a email to everyone like in step 9?)
Sorry for all the questions, I really want to understand and do this =D
Jesica, you can do the readings any way that resonates with you. You can do them any of those ways, you simply want to tell your potential client what to expect and what you decide to do. I do email and Skype readings, though I use the Skype service to call people’s phones more often than I do a Skype to Skype call.
Step 10 is about setting up the group. It’s all about creating it. In this step you invite people via email or message – share a link with them, don’t just add your FB friends.
Step 11 is about what you do IN the group to promote connection. This is a daily general reading that’s not focused on one specific person or their question.
Step 12 is an opportunity for people to ask their questions then I’ll tune in and answer them. I don’t do this once a week, as my biz is robust at this point. But you can do this at the beginning to gain traction and demonstrate your skills. I hope that helps!
Thanks so much for your answer and all the details!!!!
This helps me a lot, thank you! =D
